Disassembly And Assembly

  1. Remove the steering column. For additional information, refer to Steering Column  in this article.
  2. Remove the clockspring. For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
  3. NOTE: On early build vehicles, the clockspring bracket (shown) is retained by 3 screws. On late build vehicles, the bracket is retained by 2 screws.
  4. Remove the screws and the clockspring bracket.
  5. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the brake shift interlock solenoid.

  7. Using a suitable tool, press the locking pins and turn the switches clockwise 90 degrees to remove the brake shift interlock harness.
  8. Using a suitable tool, remove and discard the tilt lever.

  10. Remove the ignition switch.
    • Release the 2 locking tabs.

  11. Remove the screw and the shift lever and boot.
  12. NOTE: A new tilt lever must be installed.
  13. To assemble, reverse the disassembly procedure.
