Disassembly And Assembly

Remove the steering column. For additional information, refer to Steering Column in this article.
Remove the clockspring. For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

NOTE: On early build vehicles, the clockspring bracket (shown) is retained by 3 screws. On late build vehicles, the bracket is retained by 2 screws.

Remove the screws and the clockspring bracket.
Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the brake shift interlock solenoid.

Using a suitable tool, press the locking pins and turn the switches clockwise 90 degrees to remove the brake shift interlock harness.
Using a suitable tool, remove and discard the tilt lever.

Remove the ignition switch.
- Release the 2 locking tabs.

Remove the screw and the shift lever and boot.

NOTE: A new tilt lever must be installed.

To assemble, reverse the disassembly procedure.
