Removal and Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Mercury Milan, 2006 Lincoln Zephyr, and 2006 Ford Fusion. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: For vehicles built through 8/2005, whenever power is disconnected (through the battery or through disconnecting the connector) from the CD6 audio unit, then reconnected, the power must be continuous for a minimum of 25 seconds. Failure to follow this instruction may result in permanent damage to the audio unit.
NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the audio unit to retrieve the part number. For additional information, refer to AUDIO UNIT PART NUMBER RETRIEVAL .
    NOTE: Module configuration is only required if a new audio unit is being installed.
  1. Upload the audio unit configuration information to the diagnostic tool. For additional information, refer to MODULE CONFIGURATION .
  2. Remove the center instrument cluster finish panel.
    • Disengage the clips.
  3. Remove the 4 screws and the audio unit.
    • Disconnect the electrical connectors and the antenna lead-in cable.
  4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Download the configuration information to the audio unit. For additional information, refer to MODULE CONFIGURATION .
