Removal and Installation

All vehicles
NOTE:
Fusion shown, Milan and Zephyr similar.
- Remove the instrument panel center finish panel. For additional information, refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL CENTER FINISH PANEL .
- Remove the instrument panel. For additional information, refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL .
- Remove the steering wheel. For additional information, refer to STEERING COLUMN .
- Remove the passenger air bag. For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
- Remove the radio. For additional information, refer to ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION .
- Disconnect the data link connector (DLC) from the lower LH instrument panel.
- Remove the headlamp switch. For additional information, refer to EXTERIOR LIGHTING .
- Remove the instrument panel pad.
- Remove the 13 screws and remove the pad.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
CAUTION:
To avoid damaging the instrument panel, the aid of an assistant is required to carry out this step.
CAUTION:
To avoid damaging the instrument panel cross vehicle beam or the instrument panel upper section, spread a suitable covering over the bench to place the instrument panel on.
NOTE:
Place the instrument panel on the bench and support it upright so that the screws are accessible from the rear.
CAUTION:
To avoid damaging the instrument panel pad, the aid of an assistant is required to carry out this step.
CAUTION:
Do not twist or bend the instrument panel pad when removing it from the vehicle.
