Removal and Installation

WARNING:
  1. Use of any other than approved DOT 3 motor vehicle brake fluid will cause permanent damage to brake components and will render the brakes inoperative. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
  2. Carefully read cautionary information on product label. For EMERGENCY MEDICAL INFORMATION seek medical advice. In the USA or Canada on Ford/Motorcraft products call: 1-800-959-3673. For additional information, consult the product Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) if available. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
CAUTION:
  1. Brake fluid is harmful to painted and plastic surfaces. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, immediately wash it with water.
  2. Do not allow the brake fluid to come in contact with the adhesive backing on the brake pads. If brake fluid is spilled onto the brake pads new pads must be installed.
  3. Use only specified brake parts cleaner. Use of other cleaners may leave a residue on the brake caliper preventing the brake pads adhesive surface from bonding with the brake caliper.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
    2. CAUTION:
    1. Make sure to protect the brake pads from contamination from the brake fluid during the brake flexible hose installation and the brake caliper bleeding.
    2. Lubricate the brake caliper flow bolt threads and washers with clean brake fluid before installing the brake caliper flow bolt into the brake caliper.
  2. Remove the brake caliper flow bolt and discard the 2 copper washers.
    • To install, tighten to 30 N.m (22 lb-ft).
  3. Disconnect the brake line fitting from the brake flexible hose.
    • To install, tighten to 18 N.m (13 lb-ft).
  4. Remove the bolt and the brake flexible hose.
    • To install, tighten to 30 N.m (22 lb-ft).
  5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
