Pinpoint Test B: DTCs B1317 and B1318: Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Ford Pickup, 2006 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2006 Ford F450 Super Duty, and 2006 Ford Cab & Chassis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Use the flex probe kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multimeter probes.
  1. B1 CHECK THE BATTERY VOLTAGE
    • Measure the battery voltage between the positive and negative battery posts with the key ON engine OFF (KOEO), and with the engine running.
    • Is the battery voltage between 10 and 13 volts with KOEO, and between 11 and 17 volts with the engine running?

    Yes  : Go to B2.

No  : CHECK the charging system. REFER to CHARGING SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

  2. B2 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: ABS Module C135.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between ABS module C135-2, circuit 534 (YE/LG), harness side and ground; between ABS module C135-32, circuit 533 (TN/RD), harness side and ground; and between ABS module C135-31, circuit 532 (OG/YE), harness side and ground.

    • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts?

    Yes  : Go to B3.

No  : REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

  3. B3 CHECK THE ABS MODULE FOR A GROUND
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between ABS module C135-16, circuit 530 (LG/YE), harness side and ground; and between ABS module C135-45, circuit 530 (LG/YE), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

    Yes  : Go to B4.

No  : REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

  4. B4 CHECK FOR CORRECT ABS MODULE OPERATION
    • Disconnect the ABS connector.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion.
      • pushed-out pins.
    • Connect the ABS connector and make sure that it is seated correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present?

Yes  : INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
