Pinpoint Test C: DTC 1519 - Inoperative From The Hood Ajar Switch

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Mercury Mariner and 2006 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Use the flex probe kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multimeter probes.
  1. C1 VERIFY THE DTC B1519 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280b.
    • Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280b-5, circuit 1304 (VT/OG), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 

    Yes  : GO to  C6.

    No  : GO to C2.

  2. C2 CHECK CIRCUIT 1304 (VT/OG) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Hood Ajar Switch C127.
    • Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280b-5, circuit 1304 (VT/OG), harness side and the hood ajar switch C127-1, circuit 1304 (VT/OG), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 

    Yes  : GO to C3.

    No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

  3. C3 CHECK CIRCUIT 570 (BK/WH) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the resistance between the hood ajar switch C127-2, circuit 570 (BK/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 

    Yes  : GO to C4

    No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

  4. C4 CHECK CIRCUIT 1304 (VT/OG) FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Connect: SJB C2280b.
    • Measure the voltage between the hood ajar switch C127-1, circuit 1304 (VT/OG), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 

    Yes  : GO to C5

    No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test..

  5. C5 CHECK THE HOOD AJAR SWITCH 
    • Make sure the hood is open.
    • Connect: Hood Ajar Switch C127.
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280b.
    • With the hood open then closed and then open measure the resistance between the SJB C2280b-5, circuit 1304 (VT/OG), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the hood closed and greater than 10,000 ohms with the hood opened? 

    Yes  : GO to C6.

    No  : INSTALL a new hood ajar switch. TEST the system for normal operation.

  6. C6 CHECK THE SJB FOR CORRECT OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

    No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
