Pinpoint Test I: The Engine Off Reminder Chime Is Inoperative

  1. I1 VERIFY THE SYMPTOM 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Select PARK.
    • Open the driver door.
    • Does the chime sound for 10 seconds after the driver door is opened? 

    Yes  : The system is operating correctly at this time.

    No  : GO to I2.

  2. I2 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION RANGE INDICATOR 
    • Check the PRNDL indicator.
    • Does the PRNDL operate correctly? 

    Yes  : GO to I3.

    No  : REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER to continue diagnosis of the instrument cluster.

  3. I3 CHECK THE DRIVER DOOR AJAR INDICATOR 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Open the driver door.
    • Does the instrument cluster display the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message? 

    Yes  : GO to I4.

    No  : REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER to continue diagnosis of the instrument cluster.

  4. I4 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION 
    • Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect the instrument cluster connector and make sure it seats correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.

    No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
