Pinpoint Test I: The Engine Off Reminder Chime Is Inoperative

- I1 VERIFY THE SYMPTOM
- Key in ON position.
- Select PARK.
- Open the driver door.
- Does the chime sound for 10 seconds after the driver door is opened?
Yes : The system is operating correctly at this time.
No : GO to I2.
- I2 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION RANGE INDICATOR
- Check the PRNDL indicator.
- Does the PRNDL operate correctly?
Yes : GO to I3.
No : REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER to continue diagnosis of the instrument cluster.
- I3 CHECK THE DRIVER DOOR AJAR INDICATOR
- Key in ON position.
- Open the driver door.
- Does the instrument cluster display the DRIVER DOOR AJAR message?
Yes : GO to I4.
No : REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER to continue diagnosis of the instrument cluster.
- I4 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
- Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the instrument cluster connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
