Pinpoint Test U: The Fog Lamps Are Inoperative
- U1 USE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCs) FROM THE SJB SELF-TEST
- Using the recorded results from the SJB self-test:
- Were any DTCs recorded?
Yes: If DTC B2512, GO to U2.
If DTC B2030, GO to U4.
If DTC B2254, GO to U10.
All others, REFER to the SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX for correct diagnostics.
No: GO to U7.
- U2 CHECK THE FOG LAMP RELAY (DTC B2512)
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Fog Lamp Relay C1007.
- Carry out the fog lamp relay component test. Refer to COMPONENT TESTING or COMPONENT TESTING - HYBRID .
- Is the fog lamp relay OK?
Yes: GO to U3.
No: INSTALL a new fog lamp relay. RUN the on-demand self-test (required to clear certain DTCs). CORRECT any unresolved DTCs. CLEAR all DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- U3 CHECK CIRCUIT 477 (LB/BK) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Disconnect: SJB C2280b.
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the fog lamp relay C1007-1, circuit 477 (LB/BK), harness side and ground.
- Is any voltage present?
Yes: REPAIR the circuit. RUN the on-demand self-test (required to clear certain DTCs). CORRECT any unresolved DTCs. CLEAR all DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
No: GO to U15.
- U4 CHECK THE FOG LAMP RELAY (DTC B2030)
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Fog Lamp Relay C1007.
- Carry out the fog lamp relay component test. Refer to COMPONENT TESTING or COMPONENT TESTING - HYBRID .
- Is the fog lamp relay OK?
Yes: GO to U5.
No: INSTALL a new fog lamp relay. RUN the on-demand self-test (required to clear certain DTCs). CORRECT any unresolved DTCs. CLEAR the continuous codes and CHECK for any remaining continuous self-test DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- U5 CHECK CIRCUIT 477 (LB/BK) FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: SJB C2280b.
- Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280b-10, circuit 477 (LB/BK), harness side and the fog lamp relay C1007-1, circuit 477 (LB/BK), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes: GO to U6.
No: REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- U6 CHECK CIRCUIT 554 (YE/BK) OR CIRCUIT 1669 (OG/LG) FOR AN OPEN (DTC B2030)
- Measure the voltage between the fog lamp relay C1007-2, circuit 554 (YE/BK) (Escape, Mariner), harness side and ground; or between the fog lamp relay C1007-2, circuit 1669 (OG/LG) (Hybrid), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes: GO to U15.
No: VERIFY the BJB fuse 11 (20A) (fog lamp relay) (Hybrid) or fuse 13 (20A) (fog lamp relay) (Escape, Mariner) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- U7 CHECK THE FOG LAMP RELAY (NO DTCs)
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Fog Lamp Relay C1007.
- Carry out the fog lamp relay component test. Refer to COMPONENT TESTING or COMPONENT TESTING - HYBRID .
- Is the fog lamp relay OK?
Yes: GO to U8.
No: INSTALL a new fog lamp relay. TEST the system for normal operation.
- U8 CHECK CIRCUIT 554 (YE/BK) OR CIRCUIT 1669 (OG/LG) FOR AN OPEN (NO DTCs)
- Measure the voltage between the fog lamp relay C1007-3, circuit 554 (YE/BK) (Escape, Mariner), harness side and ground; or between the fog lamp relay C1007-3, circuit 1669 (OG/LG) (Hybrid), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes: GO to U9.
No: VERIFY the BJB fuse 11 (20A) (fog lamp relay) (Hybrid) or fuse 13 (20A) (fog lamp relay) (Escape, Mariner) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- U9 CHECK CIRCUIT 478 (TN/OG) FOR AN OPEN
- Connect a fused (20A) jumper wire between the fog lamp relay C1007-3, circuit 554 (YE/BK) (Escape, Mariner) or circuit 1669 (OG/LG) (Hybrid), harness side and the fog lamp relay C1007-5, circuit 478 (TN/OG), harness side.
- Do the fog lamps illuminate?
Yes: REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to U10.
No: REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- U10 CHECK CIRCUIT 1347 (DB/WH) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Fog Lamp Switch C2341.
- Disconnect: SJB C2280e.
- Measure the resistance between the fog lamp switch C2341-6, circuit 1347 (DB/WH), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes: GO to U11.
No: REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- U11 CHECK CIRCUIT 570 (BK/WH) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between the fog lamp switch C2341-2, circuit 570 (BK/WH), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes: GO to U12.
No: REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- U12 CHECK CIRCUIT 1347 (DB/WH) FOR VOLTAGE
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the fog lamp switch C2341-6, circuit 1347 (DB/WH), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes: GO to U13.
No: GO to U14.
- U13 CHECK THE FOG LAMP SWITCH
- Key in OFF position.
- Connect: Fog Lamp Relay C1007.
- Key in ON position.
- Place the multifunction switch to the headlamps ON position.
- Connect a fused (5A) jumper wire between the fog lamp switch C2341-6, circuit 1347 (DB/WH), harness side and the fog lamp switch C2341-2, circuit 570 (BK/WH), harness side
- Do the fog lamps illuminate?
Yes: INSTALL a new fog lamp switch. REFER to FOG LAMP SWITCH . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No: GO to U15.
- U14 CHECK CIRCUIT 1347 (DB/WH) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: SJB C2280e.
- Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280e-30, circuit 1347 (DB/WH), harness side and the fog lamp switch C2341-6, circuit 1347 (DB/WH), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes: GO to U15.
No: REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- U15 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
- Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes: INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) . TEST the system for normal operation.
No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
