Removal and Installation

- Remove the brake drum. For additional information, refer to BRAKE DRUM .
- Remove the parking brake lever clip.
- Remove the 2 brake shoe retaining clips and the 2 pins.
- Remove the upper return spring.
- Remove the self-adjuster assembly.
- Remove the lower return spring.
- Remove the parking brake actuator lever.
- Remove the rear brake shoes.
- Apply silicone grease to the brake shoe contact points on the backing plate.
- Remove the self-adjuster spring and lever.
- Remove the pivot pin.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Adjust the rear brake shoes. For additional information, refer to BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTMENT .
NOTE:
If new rear brake shoes and linings are being installed, resurface the brake drums to remove glazing and to provide an equal friction surface from side-to-side. Resurfacing also corrects out-of-round and bell conditions.
