Removal and Installation

  1. Remove the steering gear. For additional information, refer to STEERING GEAR  or STEERING GEAR - HYBRID  .
  2. Loosen the tie-rod end jam nut.
    • To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
  3. Remove the outer tie-rod end.
  4. NOTE: It is necessary to remove both steering gear boots when removing the RH inner tie-rod end.
  5. Remove the boot clamps and the steering gear boot.
  6. NOTE: LH side is shown; RH side is similar.

  7. Using a suitable tool, hold the piston shaft.
  8. Using a suitable tool, remove the inner tie-rod end.
    • To install, tighten to 110 Nm (81 lb-ft).
  9. NOTE: Using a suitable tool, hold the piston shaft while tightening the inner tie-rod.
  10. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
