Cylinder Head LH: Installation

All engines

1.

Clean the cylinder head bolt holes in the cylinder block. Make sure all coolant, oil or other foreign material is removed.

2.

Position a new gasket and the cylinder head.

Early build engines

NOTE: New cylinder head bolts must be installed. They are torque-to-yield designed and cannot be reused.

3.
Install the bolts and tighten in 6 stages in the sequence shown below.
- Stage 1: Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
- Stage 2: Tighten bolts 90 degrees.
- Stage 3: Loosen one full turn.
- Stage 4: Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
- Stage 5: Tighten 90 degrees.
- Stage 6: Tighten 90 degrees.

Late build engines

NOTE: New cylinder head bolts must be installed. The old bolts are torque-to-yield designed and cannot be reused.

4.
Install the bolts and tighten in 6 stages in the sequence shown below.
- Stage 1: Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
- Stage 2: Tighten 90 degrees.
- Stage 3: Loosen one full turn.
- Stage 4: Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
- Stage 5: Tighten 90 degrees.
- Stage 6: Tighten 90 degrees.

All engines

NOTE: The hydraulic lash adjusters must be installed in their original positions.

5.
Install the hydraulic lash adjusters.
- Lubricate the hydraulic lash adjusters with clean engine oil.

NOTE: The camshaft roller followers must be installed in their original positions.

6.
Install the camshaft roller followers.
- Lubricate the camshaft roller followers with clean engine oil.

7.

Position the coolant pump and install the bolts.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

8.

Install the oil level indicator and tube. For additional information refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube .

9.

Install the camshafts. For additional information, refer to Valve Train Components - Exploded View and Camshafts - LH .

10.

Install the coolant bypass tube. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING - (EXCEPT HYBRID) .

11.

Install the LH exhaust manifold. For additional information refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM .

12.

Install the lower intake manifold. For additional information, refer to Lower Intake Manifold .
