Seat Cushion - Front: Disassembly

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis and 2006 Ford Crown Victoria. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: Always wear safety glasses when repairing an air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) vehicle and when handling an air bag module. This will reduce the risk of injury in the event of an accidental deployment.
WARNING: Never probe the connectors on the air bag module. Doing so can result in air bag deployment, which can result in personal injury.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury, do not use any memory saver devices.
NOTE: If a seat equipped with a supplemental restraint system (SRS) component is being serviced, the SRS must be depowered.
NOTE: The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the RCM fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault.
NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
NOTE: Some front seat cushions equipped with woven cushion supports may exhibit an excessive sagging condition that requires installation of a new cushion support. When repairing a seat with this condition, remove and discard the woven cushion support and install a new steel cushion support, support springs (6 required) and shield. Backrest removal and complete cushion disassembly is not required for new cushion support installation. Refer to the appropriate steps in this procedure.
NOTE: Driver side shown, passenger side similar.

    All seats 

  1. Position the front seat to access the fasteners.
  2. Depower the SRS. For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING in the General Procedures.
  3. Remove the front seat. For additional information, refer to SEAT - FRONT .

    4. Passenger seat with OCS 

  4. To disassemble a passenger seat cushion equipped with an occupant classification sensor (OCS) system, remove the OCS. For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

    5. All seats 

  5. Remove the front seat backrest. For additional information, refer to SEAT BACKREST - FRONT .
  6. Remove the seat track. For additional information, refer to SEAT TRACK .

    7. Seat with power lumbar 

    NOTE: Take care when removing the power lumbar bezel. Pry the side of bezel at tabs to remove.
  7. Remove the power lumbar switch bezel.
  8. Disconnect the lumbar switch electrical connector.

    9. All seats 

  9. Release the cushion trim cover retainers.
    1. Release the J-clips.
    2. Remove the pin-type retainer.

    10. Heated seats 

  10. Disconnect the cushion heater mat electrical connector.

  11. Disconnect the heated seat module electrical connector.
  12. Insert a flat-blade screwdriver into the heated seat module bracket and release the locking tab. Remove the heated seat module.

    13. Seat with an armrest 

  13. Remove the 2 armrest pin covers.
  14. Remove the armrest pin retaining clip.
  15. Remove the armrest pin.
  16. Remove the armrest.
  17. Remove the armrest cover trim.
  18. Remove the 3 bolts and armrest bracket.

    19. All seats 

  19. Remove the cushion frame.
  20. If necessary, remove the 2 pushpins and the cushion mat. Otherwise position the mat out of the way.
  21. Remove the seat cushion trim cover from the foam pad.
  22. Remove the cushion support from the cushion frame.
    • If equipped, remove the 6 springs.

    23. Driver seat woven cushion support removal only 

  23. If equipped, remove the power lumbar switch.
    • Release the 2 tabs underneath the power lumbar switch bezel.
    • Disconnect the electrical connector.

  24. Release the front, RH and LH side seat cushion trim cover J-clips.

  25. Remove the safety belt buckle nut and position aside the safety belt buckle.
  26. Remove the 2 pushpins and mat from the seat cushion frame.
    • Push the cushion foam pad toward the backrest to gain access to the pushpins and mat.
    27. NOTE: If the woven cushion support is being removed because of a sagging cushion condition, do not install a new woven cushion support. Install a new steel cushion support, cushion support springs and mesh cover (shield). Refer to the appropriate steps in the Assembly procedure.
  27. Using an appropriate tool, remove and discard the 6 cushion support retainer clips and the woven cushion support.
