Pinpoint Test Ab: The Instrument Cluster Is Inoperative

CAUTION:
Use the correct probe adaptor(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adaptor(s) may damage the connector.
- AB1 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER VOLTAGE SUPPLY
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C2220.
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster, harness side and ground as follows:SPECIAL TOOL DESCRIPTION
Instrument Cluster Connector-Pin Circuit C2220-1 54 (LG/YE) C2220-17 1003 (GY/YE) C2220-19 640 (RD/YE) - Are the voltages greater than 10 volts?
Yes : GO to AB2.
No : VERIFY the CJB fuses 1 (15A), 6 (10A) and 26 (10A) are OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
- AB2 CHECK INSTRUMENT CLUSTER GROUND CIRCUITS
- Key in OFF position.
- Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster, harness side and ground as follows:CONNECTOR TERMINALS RESISTANCE DESCRIPTION
Instrument Cluster Connector-Pin Circuit C2220-2 676 (PK/OG) C2220-18 57 (BK) - Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes : GO to AB3.
No : REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
- AB3 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
- Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the instrument cluster connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
