Wheel and Tire: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis and 2006 Ford Crown Victoria. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: When a wheel is installed, always remove any corrosion, dirt or foreign material present on the mounting surfaces of the wheel or the surface of the wheel hub, brake drum or brake disc that contacts the wheel. Installing wheels without correct metal-to-metal contact at the wheel mounting surfaces can cause the wheel nuts to loosen and the wheel to come off while the vehicle is in motion, resulting in loss of control. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
  1. Position the wheel and tire on the vehicle.
  2. CAUTION: Failure to tighten the wheel nuts in a star pattern can result in high brake disc runout, which will speed up the development of brake roughness, shudder and vibration.
  3. Tighten the wheel nuts to 135 Nm (100 lb-in) in a star-pattern.
  4. NOTE: If the wheel cover is attached by plastic retainer nuts, make sure to tighten them to specification.
  5. Install the wheel cover or ornament.
  6. WARNING: If equipped with fire suppression system, repower the system. For important safety warnings and procedures, refer to FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM .
  7. If equipped with fire suppression system, repower the system.
  8. If equipped, turn the air suspension service switch to the ON position.
