Test Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Mercury Mariner and 2007 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- TG1 DTC P1635: CHECK FOR THE PRESENCE OF PCM DTC P1635 NOTE: Repair PCM DTC P1635 before entering this pinpoint test.
- Retrieve the PCM continuous memory DTCs.
- Is the PCM continuous DTC P1635 present during the self-test?
Yes No This DTC may be generated by the PCM VID block not matching the vehicle hardware.
DIAGNOSE PCM DTC P1635.
REFER toDIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) CHARTS AND DESCRIPTIONS .GO to TG2. - TG2 CHECK FOR THE PRESENCE OF ABS DTC B2900
- Retrieve all continuous memory DTCs from the anti-lock brake system (ABS) module.
- Is the ABS DTC B2900 present during self-test?
Yes No Using the scan tool, reprogram the VID block. If the PCM does not allow reprogramming of the VID block, reflashing of the PCM is required.
REFER toFLASH ELECTRICALLY ERASABLE PROGRAMMABLE READ ONLY MEMORY (EEPROM) .GO to TG3. - TG3 CLEAR AND RETRIEVE TCM CONTINUOUS DTCS NOTE: Clearing the TCM DTCs will erase any TCM recorded freeze frame data. Make sure to record any TCM freeze frame information before proceeding any further. Refer to the scan tool instruction manual for freeze frame PID menu.
- Clear and retrieve TCM continuous DTCs.
- Is DTC P1635 present?
Yes No This DTC may be generated by the PCM VID block not matching the vehicle's hardware.
GO to TG4.The concern is no longer present. The concern could not be isolated.
CLEAR the TCM DTCs. - TG4 CHECK THE PCM VID BLOCK FOR CORRECT INFORMATION
- Verify the PCM VID block information matches vehicle's hardware. Refer toFLASH ELECTRICALLY ERASABLE PROGRAMMABLE READ ONLY MEMORY (EEPROM) .
- Is the VID block correctly configured?
Yes No INSTALL a new transaxle assembly. REFER to AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION - ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (ECVT) . Using the scan tool, reprogram the VID block. If the PCM does not allow reprogramming of the VID block, reflashing of the PCM is required.
