Removal and Installation

  1. Open the liftgate.
  2. Position the top and sides of the liftgate opening weatherstrip aside.
  3. Position the D-pillar trim panels aside.
  4. NOTE: Use care to avoid bending or crimping the headliner.
  5. Remove the pin-type retainers from the rear of the headliner.
  6. Lower the rear of the headliner to gain access to the electrical connectors.
  7. Disconnect the electrical connectors and routing clips.

  8. Disconnect the rear washer fluid hose routing.

  9. If equipped, disconnect the power liftgate rod-to-power liftgate.
    • Remove the power liftgate strut nut.
      • To install, tighten to 11 Nm (97 lb-in).
    • Remove the strut from the liftgate.

  10. Support the liftgate in the OPEN position.
  11. Disconnect the 2 struts from the liftgate.
  12. With help from an assistant, remove the liftgate hinge-to-liftgate bolts.
    • To install, tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).

  13. With help from an assistant, remove the liftgate.
  14. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Check liftgate alignment.
    • If equipped with power liftgate, initialize the power liftgate. For additional information, refer to POWER LIFTGATE INITIALIZATION .
