Principles of Operation: Subwoofer
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Lincoln MKX and 2010 Ford Edge. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
The Premium subwoofer is powered by its own amplifier. The subwoofer in the THX® audio system is powered by the audio DSP module. The enable/clip detection circuit carries out 2 functions: to turn the amplifier on, and to indicate to the ACM (Premium) or audio DSP module (THX® sound) when the subwoofer output distortion signal reaches a damaging level. The ACM (Premium) or audio DSP module (THX® sound) then clips the audio output signal to prevent damage to the subwoofer.
