Power Steering Pump: Removal

NOTE: While repairing the power steering system, care should be taken to prevent the entry of foreign material or failure of the power steering components may result.

All vehicles

With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING .
Using a suitable suction device, remove the power steering fluid from the fluid reservoir.
Remove the RH inner fender splash shield. For additional information, refer to FRONT END BODY PANELS .
Position the Stretchy Belt Remover on the power steering pump pulley belt as shown in illustration.

NOTE: Feed the Stretchy Belt Remover on to the power steering pump pulley approximately 152 mm (5.984 in).

Turn the crankshaft clockwise and feed the Stretchy Belt Remover evenly on the power steering pump pulley as shown in illustration.
Remove the power steering pump belt.
- Fold the Stretchy Belt Remover under the inside of the power steering pump belt as shown in illustration.
- In one quick motion, firmly pull the Stretchy Belt Remover out of the RH fender well, removing the power steering pump belt.

All-Wheel Drive (AWD) vehicles
Remove the 4 bolts and position the driveshaft aside.

All vehicles
Using a suitable jack, support the rear of the subframe.
Remove the 2 nuts, 4 bolts and the subframe support brackets.

Remove the 2 middle subframe nuts.

Lower the rear of the subframe.
Release the clamp and disconnect the power steering pump supply hose from the power steering pump.
Disconnect the Power Steering Pressure (PSP) switch electrical connector.
Remove the pressure line-to-power steering pump banjo bolt and disconnect the pressure line from the pump.
- Discard the 2 seals.
Remove the 3 power steering pump bolts and the pump.
