Pinpoint Test N: One Turn Signal/Hazard Lamp Is Inoperative/Always On

NOTE:
Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
- N1 CHECK THE STOPLAMPS
- Apply and release the brake pedal while observing the stoplamps.
- Do the stoplamps operate correctly?
- Yes: GO to N2 .
- No: REFER to STOPLAMPS .
- N2 DETERMINE IF A TURN LAMP IS ALWAYS ON
- Ignition ON.
- Monitor the turn lamps.
- Is either front turn lamp always on?
- Yes: GO to N3 .
- No: GO to N4.
- N3 CHECK THE SJB TURN LAMP OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: SJB C2280f.
- Ignition ON.
- Does the front turn lamp in question continue to illuminate?
- Yes: REPAIR circuit CLS21 (BU/GN) (LH turn lamp) or circuit CLS25 (YE/VT) (RH turn lamp) for a short to voltage. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- No: GO to N10.
- N4 USE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE SJB SELF-TEST
- Check the recorded results from the SJB self-test.
- Is DTC B2A27 or DTC B2A29 present?
- Yes: GO to N7.
- No: GO to N5 .
- N5 CHECK THE BULB HOLDER FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect: Inoperative Front Turn Lamp.
- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: SJB Self-Test.
- Clear the DTCs and repeat the self-test (required to enable the turn lamp output driver if DTC B106E is present)
- Activate the hazard flasher lamp function.
- Measure the voltage between the inoperative turn lamp, harness side and ground as follows:VOLTAGE REFERENCE CHART
Inoperative Turn Lamp Connector-Pin Circuit Edge LH front C1023-3 CLS21 (BU/GN) RH front C1043-3 CLS25 (YE/VT) MKX LH front headlamp C1021a-5 CLS21 (BU/GN) RH front headlamp C1041a-5 CLS25 (YE/VT) - Does the voltage alternate between 0 and greater than 10 volts?
- Yes:
For Edge, INSTALL a new bulb holder. TEST the system for normal operation.
For MKX, INSTALL a new headlamp assembly. REFER to HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No: GO to N6 .
- N6 CHECK THE SJB TURN LAMP OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Turn the hazard lamps off.
- Disconnect: SJB C2280f.
- Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280f-21 (DTC B2A2A), circuit CLS21 (BU/GN), harness side and ground; or between the SJB C2280f-23 (DTC B2A28), circuit CLS25 (YE/VT), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes: GO to N10.
- No:
REPAIR circuit CLS21 (BU/GN) (LH turn lamp) or circuit CLS25 (YE/VT) (RH turn lamp) for a short to ground. After the repair:
If no DTCs are present, TEST the system for normal operation.
If DTC B106E is present, CLEAR the DTCs and REPEAT the self-test (required to enable the turn lamp output driver if DTC B106E is present) . TEST the system for normal operation.
If DTC B106F is present, INSTALL a new SJB . REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES . TEST the system for normal operation.
- N7 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE FRONT TURN LAMP
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Inoperative Turn Lamp.
- Turn the hazard lamps on.
- Measure the voltage between the inoperative turn lamp, harness side and ground as follows:VOLTAGE REFERENCE CHART
Inoperative Turn Lamp Connector-Pin Circuit Edge LH front C1023-3 CLS21 (BU/GN) RH front C1043-3 CLS25 (YE/VT) MKX LH front headlamp C1021a-5 CLS21 (BU/GN) RH front headlamp C1041a-5 CLS25 (YE/VT) - Does the voltage alternate from 0 volts to greater than 10 volts?
- Yes: GO to N8 .
- No: GO to N9.
- N8 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE FRONT TURN LAMP USING THE CONNECTOR GROUND NOTE: Make sure the headlamps operate correctly before continuing with diagnostics for the turn lamps.
- For Edge, measure the voltage between the inoperative turn lamp connector, harness side as follows:VOLTAGE REFERENCE CHART
Inoperative Turn Lamp Connector-Pin/Circuit Connector-Pin/Circuit LH front C1023-3 C1023-1 CLS21 (BU/GN) GD123 (BK/GY) RH front C1043-3 C1043-1 CLS25 (YE/VT) GD120 (BK/GN) - For MKX, measure the voltage between the inoperative turn lamp connector, harness side as follows:VOLTAGE REFERENCE CHART
Inoperative Turn Lamp Connector-Pin/Circuit Connector-Pin/Circuit LH front headlamp C1021a-5 C1021a-6 CLS21 (BU/GN) GD123 (BK/GY) RH front headlamp C1041a-5 C1041a-6 CLS25 (YE/VT) GD123 (BK/GY) - Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes:
For Edge, INSTALL a new bulb holder. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
For MKX, REPAIR or INSTALL a new headlamp. REFER to HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- No: REPAIR circuit GD123 (BK/GY) (LH front turn) or circuit GD120 (BK/GN) (RH front turn lamp) for an open. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- For Edge, measure the voltage between the inoperative turn lamp connector, harness side as follows:
- N9 CHECK LH OR RH TURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: SJB C2280f.
- Measure the resistance between the inoperative turn lamp, harness side and the SJB
, harness side as follows:RESISTANCE REFERENCE CHART
Inoperative Turn Lamp Connector-Pin SJB Connector-Pin Circuit Edge LH front C1023-3 C2280f-21 CLS21 (BU/GN) RH front C1043-3 C2280f-23 CLS25 (YE/VT) MKX LH front headlamp C1021a-5 C2280f-21 CLS21 (BU/GN) RH front headlamp C1041a-5 C2280f-23 CLS25 (YE/VT) - Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes: GO to N10 .
- No: REPAIR the circuit in question for an open. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test
- N10 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
- Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes: INSTALL a new SJB . REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
