Removal And Installation

- Depower the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, refer to GENERAL PROCEDURES article.
- Remove the 2 screws, position the parking brake release assembly aside and remove the steering column cover reinforcement.
- Remove the 5 screws and the steering column reinforcement.
- To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
- From under the hood, loosen the bolt and disconnect the LH bulkhead connector.
- To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
- Release the LH bulkhead connector from the dash panel.
- Open the glove compartment. Disconnect the glove compartment isolator.
- While pushing in on the 2 glove compartment door tabs, position the glove compartment downward.
- Remove the instrument panel support brace bolt through the glove compartment opening.
- Close the glove compartment door.
- To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
- Remove the RH instrument panel lower insulator.
- Position the LH and RH door weatherstrip seals aside.
- Remove the LH and RH A-pillar lower trim panels.
- Remove the LH and RH A-pillar trim panels.
- Remove the RH ground bolt.
- To install, tighten to 3 Nm (27 lb-in).
- Disconnect the 4 RH instrument panel wiring harness electrical connectors.
- Remove the LH ground bolt.
- To install, tighten to 3 Nm (27 lb-in).
- Disconnect the 2 LH instrument panel wiring harness connectors.
- Disconnect the parking brake release vacuum connector.
- Disconnect the vacuum connector.
- Remove the nut and position the steering column brace aside.
- To install, tighten to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft).
- Remove and discard the intermediate shaft pinch bolt.
- Separate the intermediate shaft from the steering column shaft.
- To install, tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).
- Disconnect the selector lever cable from the steering column shift tube lever and the steering column bracket.
- Remove the pin-type retainer and the tunnel brace trim cover.
- Remove the 4 nuts and the instrument panel tunnel brace.
- To install, tighten to 15 Nm (133 lb-in).
- Remove the instrument panel defroster opening grille.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the instrument panel cowl top bracket bolt.
- To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
- Remove the 3 instrument panel cowl top bracket bolts.
- To install, tighten to 3 Nm (27 lb-in).
- Remove the RH instrument panel cowl side nut.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (106 lb-in).
- Remove the upper LH instrument panel cowl side nut.
- To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
- Remove the lower LH instrument panel cowl side bolt.
- To install, tighten to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).
- Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
NOTE:
Removing the instrument panel from the vehicle requires an assistant.
