Steering Gear Turn Tubes

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING article.
  2. CAUTION: New O-ring seals must be installed any time the lines are disconnected from the steering gear or a leak may occur.
  3. Remove the steering line clamp plate bolt and disconnect the pressure and return lines.
    • Discard the O-ring seals.
    • To install, tighten to 21 Nm (15 lb-ft).
  4. NOTE: When removing the steering gear turn tubes, remove any Teflon® O-ring seals remaining in the gear ports of the steering gear.
  5. Remove the 2 steering gear turn tubes.
    • To install, tighten to 22 Nm (16 lb-ft).
  6. NOTE: When connecting a fitting with an O-ring seal, a new seal must be installed.
  7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  8. Fill the power steering system. For additional information, refer to GENERAL PROCEDURES article.
