Transaxle Case Bushing: Removal

- Remove the front LH halfshaft seal. For additional information, refer to HALFSHAFT SEAL - LH in this service information.
- Remove the drain plug and drain the transmission fluid.
- Install the Step Plate in the differential carrier.
- Using the Transmission Extension Housing Bushing Remover remove the LH halfshaft bushing.
- Remove the Step Plate from the differential carrier.
- Inspect the LH halfshaft journal. If the journal does not have metal transfer on it from the original bushing, replace only the bushing and seal. If there is metal transfer on the journal, replace the LH halfshaft. For additional information, refer to

NOTE:
Leave the drain plug out after the transmission fluid drains. The drain plug will need to remain out to clean any debris from the damaged or worn bushing.
NOTE:
The replacement bushing has a red Teflon® coating on the inside diameter of the bushing. This will allow for the reuse of the original half shaft, if there is no metal transfer on the halfshaft journal.
