Engine Front Cover: Removal

NOTE:
During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material (including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces) that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan can cause engine failure.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
- Release the fuel system pressure. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE .
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the crankshaft front seal. For additional information, refer to LOWER END COMPONENTS - EXPLODED VIEW and Removal .
- Remove the generator bolt and the 2 nuts.
- Remove the 2 studs and position the generator away from the engine.
- Remove the 3 bolts and the accessory drive belt tensioner.
- Detach the wiring harness retainer from the engine front cover stud bolt.
- Disconnect the Crankshaft Position (CKP) electrical connector and detach the wiring harness retainer.
- Disconnect the 2 Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor electrical connectors and detach the wiring harness retainer from the engine front cover stud bolt.
- Remove the LH and RH Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) oil control solenoids. For additional information, refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the engine mount. For additional information, refer to Removal and Installation .
- Remove the 2 oil pan-to-front cover bolts.
- Remove the 14 bolts, 2 stud bolts and the engine front cover.
- Remove and discard the gaskets.
