Removal And Installation

All vehicles 

  1. Position aside the liftgate weatherstrip.
  2. Remove the liftgate scuff plate trim panel.
    • Remove the 2 pushpin retainers.

  4. Remove the C-pillar trim panel. For additional information, refer to C-Pillar Trim Panel - Taurus X .
  5. Remove the D-pillar trim panel. For additional information, refer to D-Pillar Trim Panel - Taurus X .
  6. Position aside the bottom portion of the LH or RH rear door weatherstrip.
  7. Position the rear portion of the scuff plate trim panel aside to gain access to the quarter trim panel retaining screw.
  8. Remove the quarter trim panel retaining screw.

  10. Position the second row seats in the flat position and then tilt the second row seats forward.
  11. Position the third row seats in the flat position.
  12. Remove the cargo net retaining hooks.
  13. Vehicles with a power liftgate 

  14. Remove the power liftgate rod retaining nut cover.

  16. Remove the power liftgate rod retaining nut.
    • To install, tighten to 11 Nm (8 lb-ft).

  18. Remove the power liftgate rod from the liftgate.
  19. Remove the power liftgate rod cover.
    • Pull the power liftgate rod cover outward to release the power liftgate rod cover clips.
    • Disconnect the electrical connector.

  21. Position the liftgate rod to the full down position.
  22. Remove the quarter trim panel.
    • Pull the quarter trim panel toward the inside of the vehicle to release the retaining clips.
    • If equipped, disconnect the electrical connectors.
    • Maneuver the quarter trim panel over the third row seat and over the power liftgate rod.
  23. Vehicles without a power liftgate 

  24. Remove the quarter trim panel.
    • Pull the quarter trim panel toward the inside of the vehicle to release the retaining clips.
    • If equipped, disconnect the electrical connectors.
  25. All vehicles 

  26. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
