Occupant Classification Sensor - Original Equipment: Removal

WARNING: To reduce the risk of accidental deployment, do not use any memory saver devices. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death.

NOTE: It is necessary to carry out the occupant classification sensor (OCS) system reset when a front passenger seat cushion is disassembled, a new trim cover is installed, or an OCS service kit is installed. A scan tool is used to trigger the active command to carry out the OCS system reset. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the incorrect operation of the OCS system.

NOTE: Occupant classification sensor (OCS) system components (seat cushion foam pad, bladder with pressure sensor and electronic control unit) are calibrated to each other and are serviced as an assembly. The OCS system components are not to be installed separately.

NOTE: To identify between a production OCS system and an OCS system service kit, inspect the occupant classification system module (OCSM) electrical connector. A production OCS system allows the disconnect of the OCSM electrical connector. An OCS service kit has the OCSM electrical connector glued to the OCS. It cannot and should not be disconnected or altered.

NOTE: A new heater mat can be attached to the foam pad where the old heater mat was removed but a used heater mat should not be reattached to any foam pad.

NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the restraints control module (RCM) fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault.

NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.

NOTE: If removing an OCS service kit, refer to Occupant Classification Sensor - Service Kit .

NOTE: Power seat shown in illustration, manual seat similar.

All seats

Position the seat to access all the seat track-to-floor pan bolts and the safety belt anchor.
Remove the passenger seat. For additional information, refer to SEATING article.

Seats with manual recline

Pull out and remove the recline handle.

Seats with power

Remove the power seat switch knobs.

All seats

Remove the rear screw, pull out on the side and front and separate the side shield.
- Vehicles with manual seats, remove the side shield.

Seats with power

Remove the power seat control switch and remove the side shield.

Seats with heat

Disconnect the heated seat electrical connector.

All seats

Release all the seat cushion trim cover J-clips.
Release the hook-and-loop strip at the rear of the seat cushion, and then remove the seat cushion foam pad and trim cover.
Remove the hog rings and separate seat cushion trim cover from the seat cushion foam pad.

Disconnect the pressure sensor electrical connector, bend and release the retaining tab and slide the pressure sensor off the bracket.

Disconnect the OCSM electrical connector.

Remove the OCS bladder pin-type retainers.

NOTE: Make note of the routing and the opening that the pressure sensor and hose are fed through on the seat cushion support assembly for installation purposes.

Remove the OCS bladder, hose and pressure sensor from the seat cushion frame.

Remove the rivets and the OCSM from the seat cushion frame bracket.
