Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Deactivation and Reactivation: Reactivation

All vehicles 

1. Remove the RCM fuse 32 (10A) from the SJB.
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute.

Taurus and Sable safety canopy modules 

3. Connect the passenger side safety canopy module electrical connector.

4. Connect the driver side safety canopy module electrical connector.

5. Install the C-pillar trim panels. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION article.
   • Verify the safety belt retractor operates without excessive effort or binding.

Taurus X safety canopy modules 

NOTE: Headliner removed for clarity.
6. Connect the passenger side safety canopy module electrical connector.

7. Install the passenger side D-pillar trim panel.
   • Verify the safety belt retractor operates without excessive effort or binding.

8. Connect the driver side safety canopy module electrical connector.

9. Install the driver side D-pillar trim panel.
   • Verify the safety belt retractor operates without excessive effort or binding.

All vehicles 

10. Connect the driver seat side air bag module electrical connector and then slide and engage the seat side air bag electrical connector locking clip.

11. Connect the passenger seat side air bag module electrical connector and then slide and engage the seat side air bag electrical connector locking clip.

12. Connect the 2 passenger air bag module electrical connectors.

13. Attach the dampening strut to the LH side of glove compartment door.
14. Close glove compartment door.
15. Install the driver air bag module. Refer to Driver Air Bag Module .
16. Turn the ignition switch from OFF to ON.
17. Install the RCM fuse 32 (10A) to the SJB and install the cover.
WARNING: Make sure no one is in the vehicle and there is nothing blocking or placed in front of any air bag module when the battery is connected. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury in the event of an accidental deployment.
18. Connect the battery ground cable.
19. Prove out the SRS as follows:

    Turn the ignition key from ON to OFF. Wait 10 seconds, then turn the key back to ON and visually monitor the air bag warning indicator with the air bag modules installed. The air bag warning indicator will illuminate continuously for approximately 6 seconds and then turn off. If an air bag SRS fault is present, the air bag warning indicator will:

    - fail to light.

    - remain lit continuously.

    - flash.

    The flashing might not occur until approximately 30 seconds after the ignition switch has been turned from the OFF to the ON position. This is the time required for the RCM to complete the testing of the SRS. If the air bag warning indicator is inoperative and a SRS fault exists, a chime will sound in a pattern of 5 sets of 5 beeps. If this occurs, the air bag warning indicator and any SRS fault discovered must be diagnosed and repaired.

    Clear all continuous DTCs from the RCM and occupant classification system module (OCSM) using the scan tool.
