Pinpoint Test C: No Power In Run

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2009 Mercury Sable, 2009 Ford Taurus X, and 2009 Ford Taurus. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multi-meter probes.
  1. C1 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE SJB
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280b
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280e
    • Disconnect: BJB Fuse 38 (10A)
    • Disconnect: BJB Fuse 39 (10A)
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between ground and:
      • SJB C2280b-45, circuit CDC34 (WH/OG), harness side.
      • SJB C2280e-1, circuit CDC34 (WH/OG), harness side.
      • BJB fuse 38 (10A), circuit CDC34 (WH/OG), input side.
      • BJB fuse 39 (10A), circuit CDC34 (WH/OG), input side.

    • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts?
    1. YES  : Go to  C5.
    2. NO  : Go to  C2.
  2. C2 CHECK CIRCUIT CDC34 (WH/OG) FOR AN OPEN
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Ignition Switch C250
    • Measure the resistance between ignition switch C250-1, circuit CDC34 (WH/OG), harness side and:
      • SJB C2280b-45, circuit CDC34 (WH/OG), harness side.
      • SJB C2280e-1, circuit CDC34 (WH/OG), harness side.
      • BJB fuse 38 (10A), circuit CDC34 (WH/OG), input side.
      • BJB fuse 39 (10A), circuit CDC34 (WH/OG), input side.
    • Fig 2: Measuring Resistance

    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
    1. YES  : Go to  C3.
    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit CDC34 (WH/OG). TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. C3 CHECK CIRCUIT CDC34 (WH/OG) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    • Measure the resistance between ignition switch C250-1, circuit CDC34 (WH/OG), harness side and ground.
    • Fig 3: Measuring Resistance

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
    1. YES  : Go to  C4.
    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit CDC34 (WH/OG). TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. C4 ISOLATE THE IGNITION SWITCH
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the resistance between ignition switch C250 pin-4, component side and ignition switch C250 pin-1, component side.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
    1. YES  : Go to  C5.
    2. NO  : INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to Ignition Switch . TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. C5 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
    • Check SJB C2280b and C2280e for:
      • corrosion.
      • pushed-out pins.
      • spread terminals.
    • Connect the SJB connectors and make sure they are seated correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present?
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article. REPEAT the self-test.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
