Pinpoint Test H: The Luggage Compartment Lamp Is Inoperative

Normal Operation
The luggage compartment lamp is controlled by the lighting control module (LCM). The LCM receives a signal from the luggage compartment lid ajar switch through circuit 486 (BR/WT). When the luggage compartment lid is opened, the luggage compartment lid ajar switch closes and signals the LCM. The luggage lamp is supplied voltage through circuit 705 (LG/OG). The LCM controls the ground side of the luggage compartment lamp through circuit 1092 (PK/OG).
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Luggage lamp assembly
- Luggage compartment lid release solenoid
- LCM
PINPOINT TEST H: THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LAMP IS INOPERATIVE
- H1 CHECK THE DECKLID AJAR PID STATUS WITH THE SCAN TOOL
- Key in ON position.
- Open the decklid.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: LCM DataLogger
- Monitor the LCM decklid ajar PID (DECKLID).
- Does the decklid ajar PID match the decklid position?
- H2 CHECK CIRCUIT 705 (LG/OG) FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: Luggage Compartment Lamp C428
- Measure the voltage between the luggage compartment lamp C428-1, circuit 705 (LG/OG), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- YES : Go to H3.
- NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- H3 CHECK CIRCUIT 1092 (PK/OG) FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: LCM C2145d
- Measure the resistance between the LCM C2145d-9, circuit 1092 (PK/OG), harness side and the luggage compartment lamp C428-2, circuit 1092 (PK/OG), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : Go to H4.
- NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- H4 CHECK THE LUGGAGE LAMP OPERATION
- Connect: Luggage Compartment Lamp C428
- Connect a fused (5A) jumper wire between the LCM C2145d-9, circuit 1092 (PK/OG), harness side and ground.
- Does the luggage lamp illuminate?
- YES : REMOVE the jumper wire. Go to H8.
- NO : REMOVE the jumper wire. INSTALL a new luggage lamp assembly. TEST the system for normal operation.
- H5 CHECK THE DECKLID RELEASE SOLENOID OPERATION
- Operate the decklid release solenoid.
- Does the decklid release operate?
- YES : Go to H6.
- NO : REFER to HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES & ENTRY SYSTEMS article to continue diagnosis of the decklid release system.
- H6 CHECK THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LID AJAR SWITCH
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Luggage Compartment Lid Release Solenoid C430
- Connect a fused (5A) jumper wire between the luggage compartment lid ajar switch C430-1, circuit 486 (BN/WH), harness side and the luggage compartment lid ajar switch C430-3, circuit 57 (BK), harness side.
- Does the luggage compartment lamp illuminate?
- YES : INSTALL a new luggage compartment lid latch. REFER to HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES & ENTRY SYSTEMS article. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : REMOVE the jumper wire. Go to H7.
- H7 CHECK CIRCUIT 486 (BN/WH) FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: LCM C2145B
- Measure the resistance between the luggage compartment lid ajar switch C430-1, circuit 486 (BN/WH), harness side and the LCM 2145B-4, circuit 486 (BN/WH), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : Go to H8.
- NO : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- H8 CHECK FOR CORRECT LCM OPERATION
- Disconnect all the LCM connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the LCM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- YES : INSTALL a new LCM. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
