Valve Cover - LH: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2009 Mercury Grand Marquis and 2009 Ford Crown Victoria. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove the air cleaner and outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING article.
  2. Disconnect the 4 wiring harness retainers from the valve cover and position the wire harness aside.
  3. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation tube quick connect coupling from the valve cover. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article.
  4. NOTE: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surface. These tools cause scratches and gouges that make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of the gasket material.
  5. Loosen the 11 fasteners and remove the LH valve cover and gasket.
    • Clean the valve cover mating surface of the cylinder head with silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging.
    • Discard the valve cover gasket. Clean the valve cover gasket groove with soap and water or a suitable solvent.
