In-Vehicle Servicing: Camshaft: Installation

  1. Lubricate the camshaft journals with clean engine oil.

  3. Install the camshaft onto the cylinder head.
  4. Lubricate the camshaft bearing cap with clean engine oil.
  5. Install the camshaft bearing caps and loosely install the bolts.
  6. Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown in illustration.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  8. Install the camshaft sprocket and bolt. Tighten the bolt in 2 stages.
    • Stage 1: Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
    • Stage 2: Tighten an additional 90 degrees (1/4 turn).
  9. Install the timing chains. For additional information, refer to Timing Drive Components .
  10. Install the roller followers. For additional information, refer to Camshaft Roller Follower .
  11. WARNING: If the vehicle is equipped with a fire suppression system, repower the system. For important safety warnings and procedures, refer to FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM article. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.
  12. If equipped with fire suppression system, repower the system.
