Section 1488 (Manual Transmission - T5OD): Removal: Transmission

NOTE: Do not separate the transmission from the clutch housing. Remove the transmission and clutch housing as an assembly.

With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING .
Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .

NOTE: Index-mark the driveshaft to the output shaft flange.

Remove the 4 driveshaft bolts and separate the driveshaft from the output flange. Position the driveshaft aside.
- Using mechanic's wire, support the driveshaft.

Remove the shift linkage bolt and the shift linkage nut. Disconnect the shift linkage from the transmission.

Separate the wiring harness from the transmission. Disconnect the following:
- Catalyst monitor sensor electrical connector
- Reverse lamp switch electrical connector
- Wiring harness clips
- Output Shaft Speed (OSS) sensor electrical connector

Remove the 2 starter motor bolts and the starter motor. Position the starter motor aside.
- Using mechanic's wire, support the starter motor.

Using a suitable transmission jack, support the transmission.
Remove the 4 crossmember bolts and the transmission mount bolt. Move the crossmember downward to slide the exhaust isolators from the brackets. Remove the crossmember.

Release the clutch hydraulic tube clip and separate the connector from the clutch slave cylinder.

Loosen the exhaust coupler and disconnect the intermediate pipe from the catalytic converter. Discard the exhaust coupler.

Remove the 8 transmission-to-engine bolts and the separator plate bolt.
Pull the transmission rearward until the input shaft is clear of the pressure plate, then lower the transmission from the vehicle.
