Pinpoint Test B: No Power In Acc
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Mercury Sable, 2008 Ford Taurus X, and 2008 Ford Taurus. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multi-meter probes.
- B1 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE SJB
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: SJB C2280a
- Key in ACCESSORY position.
- Measure the voltage between SJB C2280a-3, circuit CDC33 (VT/GN), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- B2 CHECK CIRCUIT CDC33 (VT/GN) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Ignition Switch C250
- Measure the resistance between SJB C2280a-3, circuit CDC33 (VT/GN), harness side and ignition switch C250-6, circuit CDC33 (VT/GN), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : Go to B3.
- NO : REPAIR circuit CDC33 (VT/GN). TEST the system for normal operation.
- B3 CHECK CIRCUIT CDC33 (VT/GN) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between SJB C2280a-3, circuit CDC33 (VT/GN), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- YES : Go to B5.
- NO : REPAIR circuit CDC33 (VT/GN). TEST the system for normal operation.
- B4 ISOLATE THE SJB
- Connect: SJB C2280a
- Disconnect: SJB Fuse 45 (5A)
- Measure the voltage between SJB fuse 45 (5A) input side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- YES : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article. REPEAT the self-test.
- B5 ISOLATE THE IGNITION SWITCH
- Key in ACCESSORY position.
- Measure the resistance between ignition switch C250 pin-4, component side and ignition switch C250 pin-6, component side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : Go to B6.
- NO : INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to Ignition Switch . TEST the system for normal operation.
- B6 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
- Key in OFF position.
- Check SJB C2280a for:
- corrosion.
- pushed-out pins.
- spread terminals.
- Connect SJB C2280a and make sure it is seated correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- YES : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article. REPEAT the self-test.
- NO : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
