  • VERIFY the instrument cluster (IC) is configured for compass.
  • If the instrument cluster (IC) is correctly configured, INSTALL a new instrument cluster (IC). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The CALIBRATION COMPLETED message is inoperative
  • Compass calibration incomplete
  • Compass sensor module
  • The distance to empty (DTE)/average fuel economy is inoperative
  • Instrument cluster (IC)
  • CHECK the operation of the speedometer, the odometer, and the fuel gauge.
    • If the speedometer, odometer, and fuel gauge operate correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster (IC). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The FUEL LEVEL LOW or XXX MILES/KM TO E FUEL LEVEL LOW warning is inoperative

  • VERIFY that the fuel gauge operates correctly and that there is less than approximately 3 gallons of fuel in the tank.
      NOTE: The miles to empty warning only displays at 80 km (50 miles) to empty which is equal to approximately 3-5 gallons of fuel remaining. This is a learned strategy based on fuel economy and changes from its default setting.
    • If the fuel gauge operates correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster (IC). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The WASHER FLUID LEVEL LOW display does not operate correctly

  • The CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM, PARK BRAKE ENGAGED or BRAKE FLUID LEVEL LOW warning is inoperative/always on

  • CHECK the operation of the brake warning indicator.
    • If the brake warning indicator does not operate correctly, go to Pinpoint Test N  (brake warning indictor never on) or Go to Pinpoint Test O  (brake warning indicator always on).
    • If the brake warning indicator operates correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster (IC). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The DRIVER, PASSENGER, REAR LEFT, REAR RIGHT DOOR AJAR or LIFTGATE warning is inoperative/always on
  • Interior lighting concern
  • Instrument cluster (IC)
  • The CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM warning is inoperative/always on
  • Instrument cluster (IC)
  • VERIFY that the charging warning indicator operates correctly.
    • If the charging warning indicator does not operate correctly, go to Pinpoint Test M .
    • If the charging warning indicator operates correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster (IC). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The LOW TIRE PRESSURE, TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR FAULT or TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR FAULT warning is inoperative/always on
  • SJB
  • Instrument cluster (IC)
  • VERIFY that the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) warning indicator operates correctly.
    • If the TPMS reconfigurable telltale indicator does not operate correctly, go to Pinpoint Test AA .
    • If the TPMS warning indicator operates correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster (IC). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The TRAIN RIGHT FRONT, LEFT FRONT, RIGHT REAR, LEFT REAR, INNER LEFT REAR, SPARE TIRE or TIRES NOT TRAINED-REPEAT message is inoperative/always on
  • Tire training
  • If the TPMS message is always on, CARRY out the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) sensor training. REFER to WHEELS AND TIRES article.
 
  • SJB
  • Instrument cluster (IC)
  • If the TPMS message is never displayed, OBSERVE the operation of the TPMS warning indicator.
    • If the TPMS warning indicator does not operate correctly, go to Pinpoint Test AA .
    • If the TPMS warning indicator operates correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster (IC). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The TRAINING COMPLETE message is inoperative
  • SJB
  • Instrument cluster (IC)
  • OBSERVE the operation of the TPMS warning indicator.
    • If the TPMS warning indicator does not operate correctly, go to Pinpoint Test AA .
    • If the TPMS warning indicator operates correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster (IC). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The OIL CHANGE REQUIRED or XXX% OIL LIFE CHANGE SOON display does not operate correctly
  • Oil life start value setting
  • VERIFY that the oil life start value is set according to the customer preferences. Advise the customer that the OIL CHANGE REQUIRED and XXX% OIL LIFE CHANGE SOON is determined by the oil life start value. REFER to Message Center Configuration .
 
  • Instrument cluster (IC)
    NOTE: The oil life display is calculated by mileage and time (12,000 km [7,500 miles]/6 months).
  • CHECK the operation of the speedometer gauge and the odometer display.
    • If the gauges operate correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster (IC). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.

  • RETRIEVE the recorded instrument cluster (IC) DTCs from the continuous and on-demand self-tests.
    • If the instrument cluster (IC) DTC B1868 is not present, the system is operating correctly. The air bag secondary warning chime sounds only when a fault in the air bag warning indicator is present and DTC B1868 is recorded.
    • If the instrument cluster (IC) DTC B1868 is present, INSTALL a new instrument cluster (IC). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The message center warning chime is inoperative
  • Instrument cluster (IC)
  • VERIFY that the door ajar chime sounds when the door is first opened and that as new warning messages display, the warning chime sounds.
    • If the door ajar chime does not sound when the door is first opened and when new warning messages display, INSTALL a new instrument cluster (IC). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
    • If the door ajar chime sounds when the door is first opened or when new warning messages display, the system is operating correctly at this time. The message center warning chime only sounds when the message center detects new warning messages.
  • The parking brake warning chime is inoperative
