Transmission Fluid Cooler Tubes - TorqShift: Installation

Diesel engine vehicles 

  1. Install the transmission fluid cooler tubes, bracket and nut into the vehicle.
    • Tighten to 11 Nm (8 lb-ft).

  3. Connect the transmission fluid cooler hose onto the transmission fluid cooler tube.

  5. Connect the transmission fluid cooler hose onto the radiator in-tank transmission fluid cooler fitting.

  7. Install the transmission fluid cooler tube rear bracket.
    • Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).

    Gas engine vehicles 

  9. Install the transmission fluid cooler tubes into the vehicle.
  10. Reposition the starter motor electrical harness to the rear of the vehicle and connect the push pin.

  12. Connect the starter motor electrical connections.
    • Tighten the ground cable to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
    • Tighten the battery cable to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).
    • Tighten solenoid wire to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).

  14. Install the starter motor solenoid terminal cover.

  16. Install the transmission fluid cooler tubes and starter motor electrical harness front bracket and nut.
    • Tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).

  18. Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES article.
  19. Connect the transmission fluid cooler hose.

  21. Install the secondary latch onto the transmission fluid cooler hose.

  23. Connect the transmission fluid cooler hose onto the radiator in-tank transmission fluid cooler fitting.

  25. Install the transmission fluid cooler tubes and the front and rear transmission fluid cooler tube banjo fittings.
    • Tighten to 40 N.m (30 lb-ft).

    Diesel engine 

  27. Install the transmission fluid cooler tubes in the front and rear transmission fluid cooler tube case fittings.
    • Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

    All engines 

  29. Install the lower air deflector and the screws.

  31. Install the splash shield and the push pin retainers.

    CAUTION: Use only MERCON® SP Transmission Fluid to service TorqShift® transmissions. Using MERCON® V in a TorqShift® transmission may cause transmission damage. Use of any fluid other than the recommended fluid can cause transmission damage.
  33. Fill the transmission with the specified type and quantity of transmission fluid. For additional information, refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION - TORQSHIFT article.
  34. Check for leaks.
