Removal And Installation

WARNING: Before carrying out maintenance on the starting system, disconnect the battery ground cable from the frame to completely isolate the starter from the dual frame-mounted batteries. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING article.
  2. NOTE: The 6.0L diesel uses 2 frame mount batteries. The ground path is through the frame.
  3. Disconnect the battery ground cable from the frame. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES article.
  4. Remove the nut and position the cable bracket aside.

  6. Remove the starter solenoid protective cap.

  8. Disconnect the starter motor electrical connections.

  10. Remove the 2 bolts, the stud bolt and the starter.
