- Using the straight edge and Feeler Gauge Set, check the cylinder block deck for flatness.
- Measure the total deck surface, if any gap exceeds specifications, a new crankcase must be installed. For additional information, refer to SPECIFICATIONS .
- Divide the deck surface into areas of approximately 150 x 150 mm (5.9 in), measure each area and if any gap exceeds specifications, a new crankcase must be installed. For additional information, refer to SPECIFICATIONS .
- Divide the deck surface into areas of approximately 25 x 25 mm (0.98 in), measure each area and if any gap exceeds specifications, a new crankcase must be installed. For additional information, refer to SPECIFICATIONS .
NOTE:
Do not resurface the crankcase. Surface defects beyond specifications cannot be corrected.
NOTE:
Use a straight edge that is calibrated by the manufacturer to be flat within 0.005 mm (0.0002 in) per running foot length, such as Snap-On® GA438A or equivalent. For example, if the straight edge is 61 cm (24 in) long, the machined edge must be flat within 0.010 mm (0.0004 in) from end to end.
