Valve Cover - LH: Installation

All engines 

  1. Apply instant gel adhesive completely around the gasket groove in the valve cover. Install the new valve cover gasket.

    NOTE: If not secured within 4 minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned with silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging. Allow to dry until there is no sign of wetness, or 4 minutes, whichever is longer. Failure to follow this procedure can cause future oil leakage.
  3. Apply a bead of silicone gasket and sealant in 2 places where the engine front cover meets the cylinder head.

  5. Position the valve cover and gasket on the cylinder head and loosely install the fasteners.

    4.6L (2V) engine 

  7. Tighten the fasteners in the sequence shown.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

    5.4L (2V) engine 

  9. Tighten the fasteners in the sequence shown.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

    All engines 

  11. Connect the wiring harness retainer to the PCM bracket and connect the 2 electrical connectors to the PCM.

  13. Position the engine control wiring harness retainer onto the valve cover stud.

  15. Connect the LH ignition coil and fuel injector electrical connectors and the wiring harness retainers.

    4.6L (2V) engines 

  17. Install the EGR tube.
    • Hand-tighten the upper and lower fittings.
    • Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

    All engines 

  19. Position the oil level indicator and tube and install the bolt.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

    4.6L (2V) engine 

  21. Install the oil level indicator and tube support bracket nut.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

    5.4L (2V) engine 

  23. Install the oil level indicator and tube support bracket nut.
    • Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

  25. Position the crankcase ventilation tube and connect the quick connect coupling to the valve cover. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION - GASOLINE AND DIESEL article.

  27. Install the ACL and air cleaner outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING article.
  28. Install the engine cover. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION article.
