Pinpoint Test I: The STOPLAMP Are On Continuously

NOTE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
  1. I1 CHECK THE STOPLAMP SWITCH 
    • Disconnect: Stoplamp Switch C278
    • Do the stoplamp continue to illuminate? 
    1. YES  : Go to  I2.
    2. NO  : INSTALL a new stoplamp switch. REFER to Stoplamp Switch . TEST the system for normal operation.
  2. I2 CHECK FOR SHORT TO VOLTAGE TO THE CJB 
    • Disconnect: CJB Fuse 39 (10A)
    • Do the stoplamp continue to illuminate? 
    1. YES  : If equipped with a TBCM, go to  I5.

      If not equipped with a TBCM, go to  I6.

    2. NO  : Go to  I3.
  3. I3 CHECK THE BRAKE SHIFT INTERLOCK 
    • Connect: CJB Fuse 39 (10A)
    • Disconnect: Brake Shift Interlock Actuator C2008
    • Do the stoplamp continue to illuminate? 
    1. YES  : Go to  I4.
    2. NO  : INSTALL a brake shift interlock actuator. REFER to AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION EXTERNAL CONTROLS article. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. I4 CHECK THE PCM 
    • Disconnect: PCM C175b or PCM C1381b
    • Do the stoplamp continue to illuminate? 
    1. YES  : REPAIR circuit 569 (DG) for short to voltage. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : Go to  I7.
  5. I5 CHECK THE TBCM 
    • Disconnect: TBCM C2142
    • Do the stoplamp continue to illuminate? 
    1. YES  : Go to  I6.
    2. NO  : INSTALL a new TBCM. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. I6 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH 
    • Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C202a
    • Do the stoplamp continue to illuminate? 
    1. YES  : If the high mounted stoplamp continues to illuminate, REPAIR circuit 511 (LG) for a short to voltage. TEST the system for normal operation.

      If the LH rear lamp continues to illuminate, REPAIR circuit 9 (LG/OG) for a short to voltage. TEST the system for normal operation.

      If the RH rear lamp continues to illuminate, REPAIR circuit 5 (OG/LB) for a short to voltage. TEST the system for normal operation.

    2. NO  : INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. TEST the system for normal operation.
  7. I7 CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the PCM connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • damaged pins
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the PCM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS - GASOLINE ENGINES article or ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS - DIESEL ENGINE article. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
