Pinpoint Test G: Vehicle Binds In A Turn Or Resists Turning

NOTE: Conduct Steps 1 through 7 outlined in Inspection and Verification prior to carrying out this test.
  1. G1 CHECK FOR TORQUE AT THE REAR WHEELS 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Active Torque Coupling Solenoid C4347
    • Drive the vehicle in a straight line on dry pavement.
    • Is a pulsation or shudder still present? 
    1. YES  : REFER to DRIVELINE SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION for additional axle diagnosis.
    2. NO  : Go to  G2.
  2. G2 CHECK TO SEE IF THE ACTIVE TORQUE COUPLING SOLENOID IS BEING COMMANDED ON 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Connect: Active Torque Coupling Solenoid C4347
    • Key in ON position.
    • Enter the diagnostic mode on the scan tool. View 4X4 control module PID: CLCH SOL. Monitor and record.
    • Drive the vehicle in tight turns on dry pavement while monitoring the active torque coupling duty cycle.
    • Is the duty cycle greater than 20%? 
    1. YES  : Go to  G3.
    2. NO  : Go to Pinpoint Test H .
  3. G3 CHECK FOR THE CORRECT WHEEL SPEEDS 
    • View 4X4 control module PID: WSPD. Monitor the wheel speed PIDs while driving the vehicle at a constant speed of 48 km/h (30 mph).
    • Are all 4 wheel speeds within 3 km/h (1.8 mph) of each other? 
    1. YES  : Go to  G4.
    2. NO  : Go to Pinpoint Test H .
  4. G4 CHECK FOR A VALID ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Key in the ON position with the engine OFF.
    • View 4X4 control module PID: AP. Monitor the accelerator pedal position while opening and closing the throttle.
    • Does the accelerator pedal position match the PID value? 
    1. YES  : Go to  G5.
    2. NO  : REFER to the Introduction - Gasoline Engines to diagnose the engine control system.
  5. G5 CHECK FOR CORRECT 4X4 CONTROL MODULE OPERATION 
    • Disconnect the 4X4 control module.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion.
      • pushed-out pins.
    • Connect the 4X4 control module, and make sure it seats correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new 4X4 control module. REFER to 4X4 Control Module . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
