Pinpoint Test H: DTC C1446 - Brake Pedal Switch Circuit Failure

- H1 CHECK THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL
- Check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder.
- Is the brake fluid at an acceptable level?
- YES : Go to H2.
- NO : REFER to BRAKE SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION to continue diagnosis of the base brake system.
- H2 CHECK THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SWITCH ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR CONDITION
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Brake Fluid Level Switch C124
- Check for:
- corrosion.
- pushed-out pins.
- spread terminals.
- Is the brake fluid level switch electrical connector condition OK?
- YES : Go to H3.
- NO : REPAIR the connector/wire harness or INSTALL a new connector/wire harness as necessary. CLEAR the DTCs. CARRY OUT the self-test with the brake pedal not applied.
- H3 CHECK THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SWITCH
- Connect the diagnostic tool.
- Key in ON position.
- Using the scan tool, clear the ABS module DTCs.
- Test drive the vehicle then retrieve and record any ABS module DTCs.
- Did DTC C1140 or C1446 return?
NOTE: Since the brake fluid level switch electrical connector is disconnected, the red brake warning indicator will be illuminated.- YES : Go to H4.
- NO : INSTALL a new brake fluid switch. CLEAR the DTCs. CARRY OUT the self-test with the brake pedal not applied.
- H4 CHECK THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SWITCH WIRE HARNESS CONDITION
- Key in OFF position.
- Connect: Brake Fluid Level Switch C124
- Key in ON position.
- Attempt to recreate the DTC by flexing the brake fluid level switch wiring harness.
- Did DTC C1140 or C1446 return?
- YES : REPAIR the wire harness as necessary. CLEAR the DTCs. CARRY OUT the self-test with the brake pedal not applied.
- NO : Go to H5.
- H5 MONITOR THE PCM BRAKE PEDAL POSITION PID
- Using the scan tool, monitor the PCM BOO PID, while pressing and releasing the brake pedal.
- Does the PID agree with the brake pedal position?
- YES : Go to H6.
- NO : REFER to EXTERIOR LIGHTING to continue diagnosis of the stoplamp.
- H6 CHECK THE ABS MODULE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR
- Disconnect: ABS C135
- Check the ABS module connector for:
- corrosion.
- pushed-out pins.
- spread terminals.
- water intrusion/contamination.
- Connect: ABS C135
- Make sure the ABS connector seats correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- YES : INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module . CALIBRATE the ABS module. FOLLOW the scan tool directions for the calibration procedure. CLEAR the DTCs. CARRY OUT the self-test with the brake pedal not applied.
- NO : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. CARRY OUT the self-test with the brake pedal not applied.
