Normal Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Lincoln MKX and 2007 Ford Edge. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The odometer is displayed in the message center vacuum fluorescent display area of the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster receives the rolling count data from the PCM over the high speed controller area network (HS-CAN) communication bus.

If the instrument cluster rolling count data is missing for less than 5 seconds or invalid for less than 2 seconds, the instrument cluster displays the last known total odometer or trip odometer mileage. If the instrument cluster does not receive the rolling count data from the PCM for 5 seconds or invalid for 2 seconds, the instrument cluster defaults the odometer to dashes (-----) and sets DTC U0100 and defaults the speedometer to 0 km/h (0 mph).

NOTE: If DTC U0100 is set in the instrument cluster, other observable symptoms may be an inoperative speedometer, temperature gauge or tachometer.

DTC B2143 - is a continuous and on-demand DTC that sets if the instrument cluster non-volatile memory (NVM) is corrupted. If the instrument cluster determines the NVM to be corrupt, the instrument cluster sets DTC B2143 and displays ERROR in the message center (message center cluster) or vacuum fluorescent display (base cluster) area.
