Pinpoint Test Ai: DTC U2472 - Unexpected Ignition State

CAUTION: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
  1. AI1 CHECK CIRCUIT CBP29 (WH/VT) FOR VOLTAGE WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH IN THE OFF POSITION 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220
    • Fig 1: Measuring Voltage Between Instrument Cluster C220-20, Circuit CBP29 (WH/VT) & Ground

    • Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C220-20, circuit CBP29 (WH/VT), harness side and ground with the ignition switch in the OFF position.
    • Is any voltage present? 
    1. YES  : Go to  AI2.
    2. NO  : Go to  AI3.
  2. AI2 CHECK CIRCUIT CBP29 (WH/VT) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Disconnect: Ignition Switch C250

    • Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C220-20, circuit CBP29 (WH/VT), harness side and ground.
    • Is any voltage present? 
    1. YES  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    2. NO  : REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article to diagnose the ignition switch.
  3. AI3 CHECK CIRCUIT CBP29 (WH/VT) FOR VOLTAGE WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH IN THE ACC POSITION 
    • Key in ACCESSORY position.

    • Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C220-20, circuit CBP29 (WH/VT), harness side and ground with the ignition switch in the ACC position.
    • Is any voltage present? 
    1. YES  : REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article to diagnose the ignition switch.
    2. NO  : Go to  AI4.
  4. AI4 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER VOLTAGE INPUT WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH IN THE ON POSITION 
    • Key in ON position.

    • Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C220-20, circuit CBP29 (WH/VT), harness side and ground with the ignition switch in the ON position.
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article to diagnose the ignition switch.
    2. NO  : VERIFY the SJB fuse 29 (5A) is OK. If OK, go to  AI5.
  5. AI5 CHECK THE SJB INPUT PIDs FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH 
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: SJB PIDs
    • Monitor the SJB PIDs IGN_A_ECU, IGN_O_ECU, IGN_R_ECU, and IGN_S_ECU while cycling the ignition switch from ACC to OFF, RUN and START.
    • Do the SJB PIDs match the ignition switch position? 
    1. YES  : Go to  AI6.
    2. NO  : REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article to diagnose the ignition switch outputs to the SJB.
  6. AI6 RECHECK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DTCs 
    • Repeat the instrument cluster self-test.
    • Clear all DTCs.
    • Is DTC U2472 still present? 
    1. YES  : Go to  AI7.
    2. NO  : Go to  AI8.
  7. AI7 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • damaged pins
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify that the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  8. AI8 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION 
    • Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • damaged pins
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect the instrument cluster connector and make sure it seats correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
