Pinpoint Test AF: Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B2844 Ignition Fault

CAUTION: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
  1. AF1 CHECK CIRCUIT CBP29 (WH/VT) FOR VOLTAGE WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH IN THE ACC POSITION 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220
    • Key in ACCESSORY position.

    • Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C220-20, circuit CBP29 (WH/VT), harness side and ground.
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts with the ignition switch in the ACC position? 
    1. YES  : REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    2. NO  : Go to  AF2.
  2. AF2 CHECK CIRCUIT CBP29 (WH/VT) FOR VOLTAGE WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH IN THE RUN OR START POSITION 
    • Key in START position.

    • Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C220-20, circuit CBP29 (WH/VT), harness side and ground.
    • Key in OFF position.

    • Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C220-20, circuit CBP29 (WH/VT), harness side and ground.
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts with the ignition switch in the RUN and the START position, and does the voltage drop to 0 volts when the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position? 
    1. YES  : Go to  AF3.
    2. NO  : REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  3. AF3 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION 
    • Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • damaged pins
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect the instrument cluster connector and make sure it seats correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
