Pinpoint Test Ac: The Instrument Cluster Is Inoperative

CAUTION: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
  1. AC1 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER VOLTAGE SUPPLY 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220
    • Key in ON position.

    • Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C220-19, circuit SBP26 (YE/RD), harness side and ground; and between the instrument cluster C220-20, circuit CBP29 (WH/VT), harness side and ground.
    • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : Go to  AC2.
    2. NO  : VERIFY the SJB fuses 26 (10A) and 29 (5A) are OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  2. AC2 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER GROUND CIRCUITS 
    • Key in OFF position.

    • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220-9, circuit GD115 (BK/GY), harness side and ground; and between the instrument cluster C220-10, circuit GD115 (BK/GY), harness side and ground.
    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  AC3.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. AC3 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION 
    • Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • damaged pins
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect the instrument cluster connector and make sure it seats correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
