Inspection and Verification

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. The battery voltage must be at normal operating levels in order for the power liftgate to open and close correctly. Make sure the battery and charging systems are operating correctly before proceeding with the power liftgate diagnosis.
  3. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage. Refer to the following chart.

    • Liftgate assist cylinders

    • Liftgate weatherstrip
    • Liftgate alignment to body and striker
    • Wedges
    • Excessive weight on the liftgate (for example: bike rack or snow and ice)
    • Smart junction box (SJB) fuse 14 (10A)
    • Bussed electrical center (BEC) fuse 27 (30A)
    • Circuitry
    • Power liftgate control switch - instrument panel
    • Power liftgate rear control switch - quarter trim panel
    • Power liftgate position sensor
    • Power liftgate latch
      • detent switch
      • primary fork bolt switch
      • secondary fork bolt switch
      • sector gear open switch
      • sector gear close switch
      • unlatch/cinching motor
    • Liftgate/trunk module (LTM)
    • SJB
  4. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  5. NOTE: Make sure to use the latest scan tool software release.
  6. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
  7. NOTE: The vehicle communication module (VCM) LED prove out confirms power and ground from the DLC are provided to the VCM.
  8. If the scan tool does not communicate with the VCM:
    • check the VCM connection to the vehicle.
    • check the scan tool connection to the VCM.
    • refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK , No Power To The Scan Tool, to diagnose no communication with the scan tool.
  9. If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
    • verify the ignition key is in the ON position.
    • verify the scan tool operation with a known good vehicle.
    • refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK to diagnose no response from the LTM or SJB.
  10. Carry out the network test.
    • If the scan tool responds with no communication for one or more modules, refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK .
    • If the network test passes, retrieve and record continuous memory DTCs.
  11. NOTE: Carrying out the LTM initialization procedure will resolve concerns where the power liftgate has lost position or was not initialized correctly. For information, refer to Power Liftgate Initialization .
  12. Clear the continuous DTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the LTM or SJB.
  13. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Liftgate/Trunk Module (LTM) DTC Chart or the Smart Junction Box (SJB) DTC Chart. For all other DTCs, refer to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES .
  14. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, go to Symptom Chart .

B1331 Decklid Ajar Rear Door Circuit Failure REFER to HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES AND ENTRY SYSTEMS to diagnose the decklid ajar circuit.
B2666 Liftgate Release Switch Circuit Failure REFER to HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES AND ENTRY SYSTEMS to diagnose the liftgate handle release switch.
B273A Liftgate Release Output Circuit Shorted to Ground Go to Pinpoint Test B .
B273B Liftgate Release Output Circuit Open or Shorted to Battery Voltage Go to Pinpoint Test B .
LIFTGATE/TRUNK MODULE (LTM) DTC CHART

DTC Description Action
B106E Solid State Driver Disabled due to Short Circuit Go to Pinpoint Test A .
B106F Module Disabled Due to External Fault VERIFY there is no short to ground in circuit CPR57 (GN/WH) or CPR58 (GN/OG). REPAIR circuit(s) as necessary. INSTALL a new LTM. REFER to Liftgate/Trunk Module (LTM) . TEST for normal operation.
B107D Obstacle Detected while closing VERIFY obstacle is not present. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. If DTC B107D returns, go to Pinpoint Test D .
B1105 Rear Open/Close Switch Active During Self Test Go to Pinpoint Test B .
B1179 Latch Motor Circuit Short to Battery Go to Pinpoint Test A .
B117A Latch Motor Circuit Short to Ground Go to Pinpoint Test A .
B117B Latch Motor Circuit Open Go to Pinpoint Test A .
B117C Latch Centering Switch Invalid If any other LTM related DTCs are present, DIAGNOSE those first. If no other LTM DTCs are present, go to Pinpoint Test I .
B1317 Battery Voltage High REFER to CHARGING SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION .
B1318 Battery Voltage Low REFER to CHARGING SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION .
B1342 ECU Is Faulted INSTALL a new LTM. REFER to Liftgate/Trunk Module (LTM) .
B2019 Liftgate Exceeded Time Allowed to Cinch Door Go to Pinpoint Test C .
B201A Power System Disabled Due to High Manual Closing Speed INSTALL new liftgate assist cylinders. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. If DTC B201A returns, INSTALL a new LTM. REFER to Liftgate/Trunk Module (LTM) .
B236A Chime Output Circuit Open Go to Pinpoint Test E .
B2418 Sensor Power Short to Ground Go to Pinpoint Test A .
B2419 Sensor 1 Invalid Go to Pinpoint Test A .
B2420 Sensor 2 Invalid Go to Pinpoint Test A .
B2552 Vbatt 2 Circuit Open Go to Pinpoint Test A .
B2699 Left Pinch Strip Open or Short to Battery Go to Pinpoint Test F .
B2700 Right Pinch Strip Open or Short to Battery Go to Pinpoint Test F .
B2701 Left Pinch Strip Stuck Active Go to Pinpoint Test G .
B2702 Right Pinch Strip Stuck Active Go to Pinpoint Test G .

B2723 Glass Position Switch Active During Self-Test REFER to INTERIOR LIGHTING .
B2819 Gate Motor Circuit Short to Battery Go to Pinpoint Test A .
B2903 Chime Output Circuit Short to Battery Go to Pinpoint Test E .
B2908 Latch Switch Invalid For an inoperative power liftgate, go to Pinpoint Test A . For a power liftgate that stops in secondary latch position, go to Pinpoint Test C .
B2935 Drive Unit Failure Go to Pinpoint Test A .
B2936 Gate Motor Open Go to Pinpoint Test A .
B2937 Gate Motor Short to Ground Go to Pinpoint Test A .
B2939 Gate Clutch Short to Ground or Open Go to Pinpoint Test A .
B2940 Chime Output Circuit Short to Ground Go to Pinpoint Test E .
U0140 Lost Communication With Body Control Module (GEM) REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK to diagnose the lost communication with the GEM.
U0155 Lost Communication With Instrument Panel Cluster (IC) Control Module REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK to diagnose the lost communication with the IC.
U2050 No Application Present REFER to MODULE CONFIGURATION to carry out programmable module installation (PMI). CLEAR the DTCs. RETRIEVE the DTCs and VERIFY successful module configuration. If DTC U2050 is retrieved again, INSTALL a new LTM. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES . REPEAT the self-test.
U2051 One or More Calibration Files Missing/Corrupt REFER to MODULE CONFIGURATION to carry out PMI. CLEAR the DTCs. RETRIEVE the DTCs and VERIFY successful module configuration. If DTC U2051 is retrieved again, INSTALL a new LTM. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES . REPEAT the self-test.
U2471 Unexpected PRNDL State VERIFY the transmission gear selector (PRNDL) is in PARK. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. If DTC U2471 is retrieved again, RETRIEVE and FOLLOW non-network DTCs from the transmission control module (TCM) (if equipped) or PCM and instrument cluster module. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER and AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION - 6F50 . If no DTCs are present, INSTALL a new LTM. REFER to Liftgate/Trunk Module (LTM) .
U2472 Unexpected Ignition State VERIFY the ignition key is in the ON position. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. If DTC U2472 is retrieved again, RETRIEVE and FOLLOW non-network DTCs from the GEM. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES . If no DTCs are present, INSTALL a new LTM. REFER to Liftgate/Trunk Module (LTM) .
U2473 Unexpected Vehicle Speed (VSS) CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. If DTC U2473 is retrieved again, RETRIEVE and FOLLOW non-network DTCs from the instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER to diagnose the VSS. If no related DTCs or symptoms are present, INSTALL a new LTM. REFER to Liftgate/Trunk Module (LTM) .
