Pinpoint Test B: The Rear Window Wiper Is Inoperative

  1. B1 CHECK THE LIFTGATE GLASS AJAR SWITCH AND THE LIFTGATE AJAR SWITCH 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Open and close the liftgate glass and the liftgate.
    • Does the warning chime sound when the liftgate and the liftgate glass are in the OPEN position? 
    1. YES  : Go to  B2.
    2. NO  : REFER to WARNING DEVICES article to diagnose a liftgate glass or liftgate warning chime concern.
  2. B2 CHECK CIRCUIT 411 (BK/LB) FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Rear Wiper Motor C476
    • Key in ON position.
    • Turn the multi-function switch for the rear window wiper to the ON position.

      NOTE: Make sure the liftgate glass and liftgate are fully closed.
    • Measure the voltage between rear wiper motor C476-3, circuit 411 (BK/LB), harness side and ground.
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : Go to  B3.
    2. NO  : Go to  B5.
  3. B3 CHECK CIRCUIT 406 (BN) FOR VOLTAGE

    • Measure the voltage between rear wiper motor C476-2, circuit 406 (BN), harness side and ground.
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : Go to  B4.
    2. NO  : VERIFY the smart junction box (SJB) fuse 21 (15A) is OK. If OK, go to  B6 .
  4. B4 CHECK THE GROUND CIRCUIT 57 (BK) TO THE REAR WIPER MOTOR 
    • Key in OFF position.

    • Measure the resistance between rear wiper motor C476-1, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new rear wiper motor. REFER to Wiper Motor - Rear Window . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. B5 CHECK CIRCUIT 411 (BK/LB) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280d

    • Measure the resistance between rear wiper motor C476-3, circuit 411 (BK/LB), harness side and SJB C2280d-16, circuit 411 (BK/LB), harness side.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  B7.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. B6 CHECK CIRCUIT 406 (BN/WH) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280c

    • Measure the resistance between rear wiper motor C476-2, circuit 406 (BN), harness side and SJB C2280c-5, circuit 406 (BN/WH), harness side.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  B10.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
  7. B7 CHECK THE MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH 
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280e
    • Turn the multi-function switch for the rear window wiper to the ON position.

    • Measure the resistance between SJB C2280e-13, circuit 485 (PK/BK), harness side and ground.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  B10.
    2. NO  : Go to  B8.
  8. B8 CHECK CIRCUIT 485 (PK/BK) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: Multi-function Switch C2081

    • Measure the resistance between SJB C2280e-13, circuit 485 (PK/BK), harness side and multi-function switch C2081-12, circuit 485 (PK/BK), harness side.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  B9.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
  9. B9 CHECK CIRCUIT 57 (BK) FOR AN OPEN

    • Measure the resistance between multi-function switch C2081-9, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new multi-function switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
  10. B10 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion.
      • pushed-out pins.
    • Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article. REPEAT the SJB self-test.

      TEST the system for normal operation.

    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
