Pinpoint Test F: The Individual Hardwired Component Illumination Is Inoperative

NOTE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
NOTE: Failure to disconnect the battery when instructed will result in false resistance readings. Refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
  1. F1 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE SINGLE ILLUMINATION SOURCE
NOTE: If the headlamp switch illumination is the inoperative source, unplug the headlamp switch connector to measure the illumination circuit voltage. Unplugging the connector causes the SJB  to turn the exterior lights on by default for 10 minutes, so it is unnecessary to turn on the headlamp switch.
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Inoperative Illumination Source.
    • Place the headlamp switch to the PARKING LAMPS ON position.
    • Rotate the instrument panel dimmer switch to the full illumination position.
    • Measure the voltage between the inoperative illumination source, harness side and ground as follows:
      CONNECTOR-PIN REFERENCE

      Component Connector-Pin Circuit
      Ambient lighting switch C3348-3 VLN04 (VT/GY)
      Clock C2016-2 VLN04 (VT/GY)
      Center stack switch assembly C2114-6 VLN04 (VT/GY)
      Floor shifter C3245-3 VLN04 (VT/GY)
      Headlamp switch C205-1 VLN04 (VT/GY)
      Message center switch C269-3 VLN04 (VT/GY)
      Liftgate release switch C2269-3 VLN04 (VT/GY)
      Power liftgate switch C4216-3 VLN04 (VT/GY)
      Auxiliary climate control assembly C3198-18 VLN04 (VT/GY)
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
    • Yes  : TURN the headlamp switch off. GO to F2.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  2. F2 CHECK THE GROUND CIRCUIT TO THE SINGLE ILLUMINATION SOURCE FOR AN OPEN
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Negative Battery Cable.
    • Measure the resistance between the inoperative illumination source, harness side and ground as follows:
      CONNECTOR-PIN REFERENCE

      Component Connector-Pin Circuit
Ambient lighting switch C3348-4 GD908 (BK)
      Clock C2016-5 GD114 (BK/BU)
      Center stack switch assembly C2114-1 GD114 (BK/BU)
      Floor shifter C3245-4 GD116 (BK/VT)
      Headlamp switch C205-8 GD114 (BK/BU)
      Message center switch C269-6 GD114 (BK/BU)
      Liftgate release switch C2269-2 GD114 (BK/BU)
      Power liftgate switch C4216-2 GD149 (BK/GY)
      Auxiliary climate control assembly C3198-10 GD116 (BK/VT)
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new component in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
