Removal and Installation

NOTE: Index-mark both driveshaft flanges.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  2. Remove the muffler and tailpipe. For additional information, refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM .
  3. NOTE: Support the driveshaft.
  4. Remove the 2 rear outer center bearing support brace bolts from the center bearing support brace.
    • To install, tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).

  5. NOTE: Do not reuse the bolt and washer assemblies for the rear constant velocity (CV) joint flange. Install new assemblies or damage to the vehicle may occur.
  6. Remove and discard the 3 CV joint flange bolt and washer assemblies.
    • To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

  7. Insert a flat-blade screwdriver in the area shown to separate the rear flanges.

  8. NOTE: Do not reuse the constant velocity (CV) joint bolts. Install new bolts or damage to the vehicle may occur.
  9. Remove and discard the 4 driveshaft-to-Power Transfer Unit (PTU) flange bolts.
    • To install, tighten to 70 Nm (52 lb-ft).

  10. Using a suitable pry bar, separate the front driveshaft flange from the PTU  flange.

  11. Remove the 2 front outer center bearing bracket bolts.
    • To install, tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).

  12. NOTE: An assistant is needed to carry out this step or damage to the driveshaft may occur.
  13. With the help of an assistant, remove the driveshaft.
  14. If necessary, remove the 4 inner center bearing bolts and remove the brackets.
    • To install, tighten to 20 Nm (177 lb-in).
  15. NOTE: If a driveshaft is installed and driveshaft vibration is encountered after installation, index the driveshaft. For additional information, refer to DRIVELINE SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION .
  16. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
