Removal and Installation

WARNING: Do not use any fluid other than clean brake fluid meeting manufacturer's specification. Additionally, do not use brake fluid that has been previously drained. Following these instructions will help prevent system contamination, brake component damage and the risk of serious personal injury.

For additional information, consult the product Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) if available. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.
NOTE: Do not spill brake fluid on painted or plastic surfaces or damage to the surface may occur. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, immediately wash the surface with water.
NOTE: Electronic modules are sensitive to electrical charges. The anti-lock brake system (ABS) module can be damaged if exposed to these charges.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  2. Disconnect the ABS electrical connector.
  3. NOTE: Brake tubes must be installed in their original locations and orientations.
  4. Loosen the brake tube-to-Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) fittings and position the brake lines aside.
    • To install,
      • tighten the front and rear brake tube-to- HCU fittings to 17 Nm (150 lb-in).
      • tighten the master cylinder brake tube-to- HCU fittings to 22 Nm (16 lb-ft).
  5. Loosen the 2 bracket-to- HCU nuts and remove the HCU.
    • To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
  6. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
