Removal and Installation

NOTE: The roof opening panel motor must be initialized when repairs are carried out on any part of the roof opening panel system, including: whenever the roof opening panel motor has been removed from the roof opening panel system, the roof opening panel glass has been removed from the roof opening panel system, the roof opening panel assembly has been removed from the vehicle, a new roof opening panel motor has been installed, a new roof opening panel glass has been installed or a new roof opening panel assembly has been installed. For additional information, refer to ROOF OPENING PANEL MOTOR INITIALIZATION .

All vehicles 

  1. Remove the roof opening panel glass. For additional information, refer to ROOF OPENING PANEL GLASS .
  2. With roof opening glass removed, position the roof opening panel to the CLOSED position.
  3. Remove the A-pillars, B-pillars, C-pillars, D-pillars and quarter trim panels. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION .
  4. Position aside the front and rear door weatherstrips.
  5. Remove the side curtain air bag-to-A-pillar bracket pin-type retainers.

  6. Remove the A-pillar bracket retainer bolts and remove the A-pillar bracket.

  7. If equipped, remove the DVD entertainment system. For additional information, refer to INFORMATION AND ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEMS .
  8. Vehicles equipped with glass roof 

  9. Remove the rear dome lamp.
    • Using a non-marring tool, pry down from the rear of the dome lamp.

  10. Disconnect the dome lamp electrical connector.
    • Feed the dome lamp electrical connector through the dome lamp housing.

  11. All vehicles 

  12. Remove the assist handles, sunvisors and sunvisor clips. For additional information, refer to Exploded View in INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION .
  13. Vehicles without glass roof 

  14. Remove the center dome lamp assembly lens.

  15. Pull downward on the front of the center dome lamp assembly to release the retainer clips.

  16. Disconnect the center dome lamp electrical connector.
    • Feed the dome lamp electrical connector through the dome lamp housing.

  17. Vehicles equipped with glass roof 

  18. Pull downward on the sunshade frame at the rear of the back window opening panel to release the sunshade frame pin-type retainers.

  19. All vehicles 

  20. Release the rear headliner pin-type retainers.

  21. NOTE: Plug the rear wiper washer hose to avoid washer fluid leakage.

    Disconnect the rear wiper washer hose.

  22. Disconnect the front headliner electrical connector.

  23. Remove the overhead console. For additional information, refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL AND CONSOLE .
  24. Disconnect the mirror electrical connector.

  25. Lower the headliner.
  26. NOTE: RH shown, LH similar.

    Remove the LH and RH plastic roof opening panel end caps.

    • From above the roof opening panel track frame, release the plastic tabs and gently pull the end cap downward to release.

  27. From inside the vehicle, carefully slide the sunshade rearward and completely out of the roof opening panel tracks.
  28. Pull the trough assembly arms outward to release the trough assembly guide arm pins from the roof opening panel frame.

  29. NOTE: It may be necessary to gently pull the trough assembly arms outward to clear the roof opening panel mechanisms before it will slide rearward.

    Carefully slide the trough assembly rearward and completely out of the roof opening panel tracks.

  30. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
